Terms of Service

Effective 3 October 2026

These terms apply when you use the BillShare Android app and the BillShare service. By creating an account or using BillShare you agree to them. Please also read our Privacy Policy, which explains what data we collect and how we use it.

A free service

BillShare is completely free. There are no ads, no subscriptions, no premium features and no in-app purchases. We do not charge you, and we do not ask for payment details.

BillShare does not handle money

BillShare is a record-keeping tool. It calculates who owes whom based on what you and your list members enter. It does not hold, send or receive money, and it is not a bank, wallet or payment service.

If a member has added a UPI ID, the "Pay via UPI" option only opens a UPI app already installed on your phone, with the amount and UPI ID filled in. The payment itself happens entirely inside that app and is governed by its terms and your bank's. Marking a settlement as paid in BillShare only records it; we cannot confirm that money actually moved, and we cannot reverse, refund or recover payments.

Your account

Using BillShare responsibly

Lists are shared with the people in them, so please:

We do not review list content before it is shown to members. If you see something that breaks these rules, tell us at support@billshare.in.

Your content

What you enter stays yours. You give us permission to store, process and show it to the members of the lists you share it with, only as needed to run BillShare. Because lists are shared ledgers, expenses you were part of stay visible to other members after you leave a list or delete your account (shown under "Deleted user"), as described in the Privacy Policy.

Suspending or ending accounts

You can stop using BillShare at any time and delete your account from Account → Delete account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts other users or the service at risk, or that we are required to close by law. Where reasonable, we will tell you why.

Changes to the service

BillShare runs on modest infrastructure and is offered as is. We may add, change or remove features, and we may require you to update the app to keep using it. If we ever shut BillShare down, we will try to give reasonable notice so you can export your lists first.

No warranty

We work hard to keep BillShare accurate and available, but we provide it "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We do not promise that it will always be available, error-free or that data will never be lost. Always check important amounts before you pay someone.

Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for disputes between you and other list members, for payments you make or receive through UPI or any other method, or for losses caused by inaccurate entries. Because BillShare is free, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to INR 1,000. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will change the effective date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. If you keep using BillShare after the change, the new terms apply.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Disputes will be handled by the courts of India, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim locally.
